“We Are Not Beaten Yet” ~ Type 1 Education in Texas is Under Attack it is TIme to Rise!

Torin Halsey/Times Record News Fifth grader Ryker Beasley pays close attention to a problem being solved on the board in math class at City View Elementary. City View teachers are the rare teachers in North Texas who do not use CSCOPE. "We'd worked so hard at what we are doing, we didn't want to dump it in the trash and jump on a new system," said City View testing director Maureen Talbott. "What we're doing seems to be working. We have teachers who are working their tails off but are pleased with what they're doing."

We are not beaten yet, but it will take an uprising of the public to get our Texas Legislators’ attention. I have done my part to explain how important it is to the future of our state to keep our education standards high.  Now it is up to the people of Texas to express their views.

I received the following update a few minutes ago from Texas Rep. Dan Flynn. I know he is jubilant because he helped to push through this dumbing down of our Texas public schools by supporting so vocally HB 5.

Rep. Flynn stands partly to blame for refusing to see how wrong he is and how the Type #1 STAAR/End-of-Course tests in all of the core courses are exactly what will force Texas teachers to teach the Type #1 curriculum standards (TEKS).

Without the public pressure of the tests in each of the high-school core courses, the teachers in those subjects will most likely continue to teach their old curriculum units based upon the old TEKS which were Type #2 (including Type #2 CSCOPE).

Texas STAAR StestingWithout the STAAR/EOC’s in each of the core courses, there will be no way for the public to prove that students have been taught Type #1 curriculum. This is particularly troubling when World History and World Geography are some of the EOC’s “on the chopping block.”  It is these two courses in particular that allow the Type #2 indoctrination of our students.  I explained what is at stake in my article (3.20.13) entitled “What Gets Measured Gets Treasured.” –

Also, please read my article published on 3.25.13 entitled “Dumbing Down Our Measuring Stick: The STAAR/End-of-Course Tests.”  This article contains the links to the Texas Legislature Online that show the seven stages through which a bill must pass before becoming a law in Texas:

Excerpts from this article:

AUSTIN - This evening, the Texas House of Representatives passed House Bill 5 (HB 5), which addressed education assessments, accountability, and testing. In avote of 145-2, HB 5 passed to engrossment after nearly 9 hours of debate and over 165 amendments… HB 5 streamlines the requirement for the number of end-of-course assessments from 15 to 5.

This is the link to the article that I sent to Rep. Dan Flynn and the rest of the Texas legislators on 7.12.12.  Flynn was off on a tangent from the very beginning and managed to influence the rest of the Texas legislators “to throw out the baby with the bath water.”  http://educationviews.org/some-texas-legislators-wrong-again-staareoc-tests/

Send this Audio of the WomenOnTheWall.org interview with Brandon Darby and Donna Garner and ask your legislator to listen to it and make sure they are not in the Green or Yellow Group. Now you will have to listen to it to find out what exactly that means. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!
