Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Matthew 7:15
I have been active in the Tea Party movement for 3 years, and was involved in the Bob Hall for Texas Senate District 2 campaign. I and many others worked hard to help Bob meet the considerable challenge of an unknown Tea Partier wresting the Republican nomination from a well known & well funded incumbent. The focus of our efforts was to debunk the myth that Senator Robert Deuell was a conservative. Bob told us from day-one that the campaign against Deuell was to be clean. There would be no name calling or character assassination. We were to stick to the issues alone. This made our job much harder, but we rose to the challenge, presented the facts, and proved our case to anyone who would listen.
Throughout my experience on the Hall campaign, I spoke with many people. Both supporters and detractors of Deuell said the same thing, and I heard it often, “Dr./Senator Deuell is a nice guy.” Many Hall supporters said that they really liked and respected him, but disagreed with his voting record. I met and spoke to him once. He seemed nice enough to me. I have heard that he tells people his is a Christian.
However, something has happened that should put to bed the notion that Bob Deuell is a nice guy. Before I reveal what it is, I need to lay some groundwork. Senate candidates must have lived in the state for a minimum of 5 years. Candidate applications include residency questions. Bob Hall inadvertently gave an incorrect answer on the number of years he had lived in Texas. He has lived here for 10 years. The oversight indicated that he had been here for less than 3. He submitted the application to GOP Headquarters in Austin, unaware of his mistake. It is the responsibility of that office to review each application, and make sure that everything is in order. He was told in December that it was satisfactory. He checked with them again in early March, and again he was told that everything was good. It was not.
There are two scenarios here, both of which expose Bob Deuell for the unscrupulous politician that he is:
First Scenario
The “oversight” of Hall’s state residency error was intentional, and communicated to the Deuell campaign. Upon learning of the error, Deuell sat on it until the March 9th deadline. Late that afternoon, he contacted the GOP office, and filed a challenge based on insufficient state residency. On the same day at 5 p.m., Republican headquarters in Austin called Hall’s home and left a message on his answering machine, telling him his application had been challenged by Deuell, and he had 1 hour to correct it. Bob was told several days later that faxes and emails are not accepted, meaning that he would have had to have submitted a correct application IN Austin in 1 hour, (by the 6 p.m. deadline). This was humanly impossibly, naturally.
Second Scenario
The GOP oversight of Hall’s state residency error was an honest mistake. The Deuell campaign obtained a copy of the application and went over it carefully. They found the error and kept it quiet until the last minute. Sometime in the late afternoon of the last day, he challenged the application. Not because Hall hasn’t lived in Texas long enough, but because he didn’t meet the 6:00 deadline, he has been declared ineligible, and his campaign is over.
I will leave to my readers to decide if the GOP office truly missed the error (twice), or if they were somehow complicit in this dirty trick. Short of an independent investigation, we will never know.
Throughout the campaign, we have seen no Deuell signs anywhere. Out of 12 candidate forums, he only showed up for 4. At those forums, people were taken aback at his indifference, aloofness, and emotionally flat demeanor. Instead of addressing his liberal voting record, he talked about playing drums-now there’s a hot button issue! If you have heard Bob Hall speak, you know that he does so with great conviction. The contrast in presentation was dramatic, which left us scratching our heads. “Doesn’t Deuell want to win?” “Doesn’t he realize how repeatedly not showing up for forums makes him look?” Being new to the process, it never dawned on us that the fix was in. Deuell knew all along that he was running unopposed. Talk about disenfranchising voters!
Where does this leave us? Now we have two myths to debunk. One, that Deuell is a conservative, and two, that he’s a nice guy. Bob Deuell is a big tax-and-spender, a radical environmentalist, a suck-up to political correctness, a shady politician, and an embarrassment to the voters of District 2. This fiasco illustrates how deeply Deuell is immersed in Austin’s culture of corruption.
Regrettably, we are stuck with him for another term, but his treachery will not be forgiven or forgotten. Power must be taken away from corrupt politicians and returned to the people. Rather than being discouraged, our resolve has hardened. Deuell is at the top of the RINO Removal List and in the next election, an army will rise to vote him out of office. After all-you reap what you sow, and hell hath no fury like District 2 voters scorned.
As everyday citizens we have the power to not only take on the left leaning media but we have the power to take on the dirty politics of some of the Ron Paul supporters.
It has been brought to my attention by my friend Katie Baker with the No Compromise Pac that a video has been released using some video I shot of Senator Rick Santorum while he was speaking at the Keller Boiling Point Tea Party. There are some real problems that I have with the video that has been released and I am working to track down who put this video out. You can, at least for the present time, see the video here Ron Paul Attacks Santorum with Copyrighted Materials Taken Out of Context
“The video opens with clips of Santorum stating he supports the Tea Party and then follows with a film clip which edited one small statement from Santorum’s Q&A Session:
“I have some real concerns about this movement within the Republican Party and the Tea Party Movement to sort of refashion conservatism and I will vocally and publicly oppose it and do my best to correct the record.”
Well it looks like who ever put this video montage together has some real challenges brewing. To begin with the video clip of mine that was used has a Creative Commons Attribution license (reuse allowed) but it must be attributed to the original owner which is Voices Empower.
Here is the original video that I shot of Rick Santorum.
You will clearly see by watching that as Katie correctly states Ron Paul supporters attack Santorum with copyrighted materials taken out of context.
Please see below what Katie Baker reported in her blog post. Looks like when you have to take things out of Context you do not have the truth on your side. That is why Rick Santorum is so refreshing and as voters hear what he actually says he earns their vote.
The following video slide then states: What will you tell us next?
I received a call on Tuesday of this week from PCN-TV in Pennsylvania and I spoke with Roseann Heller, who informed me that no portion of their videos were permitted to be used for any broadcasts due to their copyrights on the programs. Copies may be obtained by contacting Roseann at 717-730-6000, extension 222. She stated whoever had made this video and whoever is displaying the video are in violation of PCN’s copyright.1 I then purchased a copy of the entire program, which I received on Friday. The following is an exact transcript of the meeting at which Rick Santorum spoke and his response to the question from the Moderator at the Pennsylvania Press Club:
24:11-25:35 Rick Santorum: No. Look I supported Trey Grayson over Rand Paul and there was a reason for that … I am not a Libertarian and I fight very strongly against Libertarian influence in the Republican party and the conservative movement. I don’t think the Libertarians have it right when it comes to what the Constitution is all about. I don’t think they have it right as to what our history is and we are not a group of people who believe in no government. We are a people that believes that government has a role to play: federal government has a role to play, state government has a role to play and local government has a role to play; and when there are clear wrongs in society, when there are injustices in society, sure you handle it at the local level if you can, but when the local and state level are in cahoots with the injustice, then the federal government has to step in and do something; and I’m just hopeful that is a mistake that will be corrected by Mr. Paul, but as I’ve said before, I have some real concerns about this movement within the Republican Party and the Tea Party Movement to sort of refashion conservatism and I will vocally and publicly oppose it and do my best to correct the record.
So now we know … the rest of the story!
RESEARCH NOTES:
1Fair use is flexible; it is not uncertain or unreliable. In fact, for any particular field of critical or creative activity, lawyers and judges consider expectations and practice in assessing what is “fair” within the field. In weighing the balance at the heart of fair use analysis, judges refer to four types of considerations mentioned in the law: the nature of the use, the nature of the work used, the extent of the use and its economic effect. This still leaves much room for interpretation, especially since the law is clear that these are not the only necessary considerations. In reviewing the history of fair use litigation, we find that judges return again and again to two key questions:
Did the unlicensed use “transform” the material taken from the copyrighted work by using it for a different purpose than that of the original, or did it just repeat the work for the same intent and value as the original?
Was the material taken appropriate in kind and amount, considering the nature of the copyrighted work and of the use?
Both questions touch on, among other things, the question of whether the use will cause excessive economic harm to the copyright owner.
If the answers to these two questions are “yes,” a court is likely to find a use fair. Because that is true, such a use is unlikely to be challenged in the first place.
Tea Party people are tough, we are fighters, we are Patriots. We understand that now is our time to fight for our country and we want a leader who is a fighter. As Gene Healy said in his article Gingrich rise is triumph of style over substance
“It’s the “forcefulness,” stupid!
On the eve of Newt Gingrich’s landslide victory in the South Carolina primary, CNN’s Erin Burnett let the former speaker expound on the success of his “kick the moderator” debate strategy.
“I think there’s something going on here that’s very deep,” Gingrich said. “People want a leader who’s forceful. … Part of it is, you know, if I’d said ‘The color is blue!’ — it’s the forcefulness. … That delivery, that clearness is as important as the specific topic,” he explained.
Watching the interview, I had a disturbing thought: Has Newt Gingrich become self-aware?
I’ve never heard a better explanation for the former speaker’s ability to cloud conservatives’ minds. How, after all, did a man who’s the very model of a Beltway-consensus influence-peddler convince Tea Party voters he represents “real change”? It’s the “forcefulness,” stupid!
Unfortunately, what’s going on here is not “very deep.” Gingrich’s rise represents the triumph of rhetorical style over substance. In a way, it’s the ultimate tribute to Barack Obama.
Here is my theory on the South Carolina primary. The Gingrich campaign has showed brilliantly what many in Washington have known for years about Newt Gingrich.
Mitt Romney had it right in the debate the other night. It is called Influence Peddling.
How to Drive the narrative is exactly what I have been teaching in my classes and I will be using the South Carolina primary as a great case study.
Let’s take a look at what the Gingrich campaign has done and is in the process of doing.
1. Form a Tea Party advisory counsel
2. They reach out and court Tea Party leaders across the country and especially in key states such as South Carolina or leaders who have certain issues such as Agenda 21 that they can jump on board with and garner support and dedication. People who will go to battle for Newt no matter what because he is a supporter of their issue.
3. Hire Kellen Giuda as their National Coalitions Director who happens to have major connections within the Tea party movement and with leaders across the country.
4. Tea Party leaders start stepping down from their positions as leaders so they can now work with the campaign.
5. Drive the narrative that Newt is supported by the Tea Party in states such as South Carolina.
6. Take advantage of an environment such as the South Carolina Tea party Convention and during the SC Presidential debate Newt takes on the Press and becomes a victim of the press and the Tea Party crowd goes wild.
7. Drive the narrative that Newt is the only option to Romney because he has all of the support with the grassroots against the establishment. He is the only electable candidate against the Romney establishment.
8. Ask fellow Tea Party members and Santorum supporters to urge their candidate to drop out because even though he is a good guy he just can’t win and we have all got to come together as Conservatives to beat Obama.
Newt’s campaign is doing a brilliant job of “Driving the Narrative. The only challenge is, it is only a narrative, not reality of what is happening or what is actually best for America.
This narrative assumes that all those voters would vote against Romney and for Newt because well they told us he is the Conservative and we must vote against the moderate establishment.
Reality – As a social conservative Tea Party person if my choice was between Newt and Romney I would vote for Romney. Why, because Newt Gingrich is more the inside the beltway establishment and he is not anymore Conservative than Romney is. Newt is actually more dangerous because just as Progressive Catholics use their faith for their own socialist agenda Newt only talks the talk he does not walk the walk. I do not judge a man by his faith I judge him by his character.
In conclusion, the organized effort by the Newt campaign to court Tea Party Leaders and members is a brilliant political strategy and each Tea Party member or leader has every right to work for and support any candidate they wish. I am obviously working hard for my candidate of choice. The difference is those who have signed on with the Santorum campaign never had to be courted or asked to use their influence to drive a narrative. We share his story and narrative because we believe he is the right man for the job.
And if you want a man who has accomplished great things being “Forceful” like a Leader then your only choice is Rick Santorum for President!
Many Grassroots/ Tea Party members have taken a look at what is happening on the ground across the country and have chosen to take a stand, speak out and publicly endorse the True Consistent Conservative candidate.
Last week I posted the following about Presidential Candidate Rick Santorum speaking at the Keller Boiling Point Tea Party…….
“Don’t miss this amazing opportunity to meet Presidential Candidate Rick Santorum –
Knowledge is power! As Texas Voters our task is to know and understand who the elected officials are that we put into office. This is your opportunity to become an educated voter. Don’t miss the opportunity!!”
Photo from the Movie Trailer - "Courageous"
After a packed house had the opportunity to hear Presidential Candidate Rick Santorum speak in Keller, Texas the word on the street is; “Who knew he was so amazing.” Well know many Texans know and will be sharing that information with their sphere of influence.
Rick Santorum in my humble opinion is a Father who is “Courageous”. He inspired me to be a better Mother the other day especially in taking on the responsibility to educate my own children. I find it quite ironic that the first song I heard when leaving this event was the theme song from the new movie out;. Could it be a little divine inspiration? I have faith to believe it could be.
Why don’t you take the time to educate yourself on Presidential Candidate Rick Santorum by watching the videos below and tell me if you come away with the same impression.
