Straus’ close ties to the largest Democrat donor in Texas~ Steve Mostyn

Why is Joe Straus such a threat to the state of Texas?

Todd Hunter and Steve Mostyn

Steve Mostyn~ Largest Donor to the Democrat Party in Texas

Yesterday, while sifting through a records request, we stumbled across an interesting event in the calendar of liberal Democratic State Rep. Garnet Coleman of Houston:

Calendar Event

Tuesday April 19, 2011 – Clyde Alexander inviting GC Todd Hunter Steve Mostyn and a few other dems to dinner with (coat and tie required, no cell phones allowed)
Location: Tarry House Tarrytown
POC: Clyde Alexander

What does this mean? Well, “GC” is Garnet. Clyde Alexander is a former Democratic state representative who served as Joe Straus’ first chief of staff in 2009 (when Straus was elected to Speaker of the House by Democrats and a few liberal Republicans). Steve Mostyn is a trial lawyer and liberal Democrat mega-donor.

Formerly a Democrat Rep., Todd Hunter is a Republican with liberal ties and Joe Straus has given him vast power in the Texas House.

Hunter is the self-described legislation gatekeeper of the Texas House. In an interview following the session, Hunter boasted that bills made it to the floor only through him. A noteworthy bill that did not make it past Hunter: spending limits legislation that enjoys 90%+ support in the GOP.

Speaker Straus has spoken dismissively of Rick Perry’s budget compact, including a spending limit and left the popular measure out of his interim charges.

This isn’t the first time Hunter and Mostyn have been caught hanging out. Todd Hunter mediated a lawsuit against TWIA that netted Mostyn $189 million, which he in turn funneled into Democrat campaigns in 2010. Shortly before the mediation began, Mostyn sent Hunter a $25,000 contribution.

It doesn’t surprise us that Mostyn got what he asked for out of the mediation.

At the time of this April 2011 “no cell phones” meeting, legislation reforming TWIA was being pushed through both bodies of the legislature.

One can only wonder ahat all Mostyn is expecting from Hunter and the Straus team in 2013.

Currently, Mostyn is locked in a pitched proxy war with Texans for Lawsuit Reform, largely in Republican primaries.

So the question is when today is over will Texans be cheated once again by backroom deals made by the Republican and Democrat Establishment  lead by Joe Straus?

Democrats cross party lines to get Straus back in power; Why?

Date posted:

Photo Courtesy of Fine Art of America

One concern True Conservatives have is Democrats crossing party lines to Vote for Joe Straus in the Texas Primary. We are getting confirmation now that this is happening this morning in HD121. To explain what they are doing.

“Voters in the state of Texas do not have to publicly identify themselves as a member of a political party when they register to vote. When they go to the polls they can freely choose either the Republican ticket or the Democratic ticket. However, voters cannot vote across party lines. Once a person chooses the ticket they will vote on they can only decide between candidates of that party. Voters in Texas receive a new voter registration card every year so they don’t have to vote on the same ticket each primary election.”

The question is Why are Democrats working to get Joe Straus reelected? Many who have been following the Speaker of the House are not surprised in the least.

To start Joe Straus we elected to his position as Speaker by 11 Moderate Republicans who partnered with Democrats to get Straus elected.

Next you have to understand that Joe Straus is not a Conservative he just says that he is to get reelected.

Now we see that on election day Democrats want him in office more than Conservative Republicans do.

Interesting to note, Democrats are looking to legalize gambling in Texas.

Why is that so interesting?

Joe Straus

Las Vegas Casino gambling company Pinnacle Entertainment has purchased Straus Family Business Interest Retama racetrack in Texas. They are expecting Joe Straus to be reelected and continue to be one of the most powerful figures in Texas. Why is this important to them, because the Speaker of the House decides who the Committee Chairs are going to be and what legislation gets voted on and ultimately passes or does not pass.

Matt Beebe commented on the expanded partnership saying, “Many voters I have talked to are worried about Joe Straus’ conflict of interest given his deep family ties with Retama. This recent partnership should concern San Antonio residents even more. WOAI’s story on the partnership made it clear that Retama Park ‘needs some form of pari-mutuel betting in order to thrive²’. These Vegas casino owners have bet big on Straus’ intention to legalize casino gambling in Texas.”

Beebe continued, “District 121 voters don’t want a State Representative whose special interest masters now include Vegas casino bosses who need him to deliver for their bets to pay off.”

So the question is when today is over will Texans be cheated once again by backroom deals made by the Republican and Democrat Establishment  lead by Joe Straus?

Matt Beebe must be “making Joe Straus and Bill Hammond sweat.”

Texas Lobbyist Bill Hammond

This is the “silly season” in politics when unethical candidates start releasing their lies. Rep. Joe Straus must be worried to have launched this attack today through his surrogate, Bill Hammond, a registered lobbyist from Austin.  Matt Beebe must be “making Joe Straus and Bill Hammond sweat.”

If Speaker of the House Joe Straus were to lose this election, Bill Hammond and the Texas Association of Business would lose their political clout and personal privilege.  According to The Texas Tribune ( Bill Hammond/TAB have spent large amounts of money to influence the legislature and their staffs.

I trust that the voters of HD 121 will do the right thing in the Republican primary by ousting Joe Straus and electing Matt Beebe as their candidate.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE from the Beebe Campaign

May, 21st 2012

http://votebeebe.com/

MATT BEEBE CALLS UPON JOE STRAUS AND HIS AUSTIN LOBBYIST TO STOP LYING

(San Antonio) Today Matt Beebe called out Joe Straus and his Austin lobbyist, Bill Hammond, to cease spreading false information regarding Mr. Beebe’s taxes.

On Friday BAC PAC, the campaign arm of Texas Association of Business, released an attack on Matt Beebe where they accused Beebe of operating businesses which had gone into tax foreclosure and forfeiture. The statement that Beebe had “operated both companies while he had forfeited their right to exist” is a blatant lie.

Matt Beebe commented on this lie saying, “This is a blatant lie that was easily verifiable, had this lobbyist desired to use his clever Open Records Request to determine facts, instead of misrepresent them and smear me, my business, and the employees who rely upon my business for their livelihood.”

“It’s a shame that a lobbyist who claims to represent businesses could show such a blatant disregard for the truth regarding my successful small businesses. Bill Hammond has definitely tipped his hand on whom he serves. Perhaps he has spent a little too much time in Austin and should consider getting back into the private sector to remember the nuances of running a small business.”

“We demand an apology and an immediate retraction of this vicious slander.  I understand the need for Joe Straus to rely upon surrogates to spread lies given his pledge that his campaign ‘won’t tear down our opponent’, but even these sycophantic surrogates must be held to a basic standard of truth. While the details are complex, the truth is quite simple – we never improperly operated our businesses” Beebe concluded.

The truth is that Digitactics, Inc never transacted business as a Texas Corporation until 2012, even though it was founded in 2005 and allowed to go dormant when Mr. Beebe chose not to start his small business as originally planned.  After starting HEI Systems & Solutions LLC in 2007, and purchasing a struggling small business in July of 2011, it was decided – independently of Mr. Beebe’s eventual decision to run for office – that rolling up all business entities under the Digitactics trade-name effective 1 January 2012 was the appropriate strategic decision.  Initially the plan was to reincorporate under Digitactics, Inc, however the Comptroller’s office informed Mr. Beebe that the existing legal entity could be administratively cleared through the filing of additional paperwork, which subsequently occurred.

With respect to HEI Systems & Solutions LLC, in 2007 it was founded as a subsidiary corporation, and the parent-child relationship was incorrectly recorded by the Comptroller’s office.  Therefore when annual Public Information Reports and Franchise Tax filings were reported, they did not get aligned to the proper entity.  This was also subsequently cleared up.

Matt Beebe is a successful business owner in San Antonio.

Hat Tip to TBSE for today’s excellent Voter information and links~

Vote Early Started Yesterday! State Board of Ed Races’ Recommendations PLUS Links to Excellent Voter Guides Below
(check with your county clerk for details)

By Frank Mayo

Recently TBSE wrote about our research on voting records of the RINOs on the State Board of Education (SBOE) who voted with the Democrats up to 100% of the time. Readers are now clear that we need to take action to make sure we are voting for conservatives and not RINO imposters. Our list of solid conservative candidates is given below, and below the table are some great links for statewide and local race voter guides from organizations that we know and trust.

Due to redistricting some are still confused about the new districts. District boundaries have changed much so you cannot just assume that you are in the same district as before. For example SBOE representative Barbara Cargill’s new district boundaries now include the far west and the far east parts of Harris County as well as a group of counties north of Houston. (The new map has her district, previously not even including Harris county, with “earmuffs” on the sides of Harris county.) Things like that are definitely confusing! Similar situations exist near all major cities. So it is important to look up your district from your street address, districts by address here.

By the way, Mrs. Cargill is the current Chair of the SBOE and she has done an excellent job guiding the SBOE towards a consensus that results in action by the Board and not the gridlock that we have often seen in the US Congress. If only Congressional leaders would take lessons from Barbara Cargill! People in Harris County need to take careful notice to see which new district, 4, 6, or 8 now includes their address.

Special note to those of you in San Antonio:  The most important people in the legislature are the lieutenant Governor and the Speaker of the House because they choose who is assigned to the committees and appoints their chairs. Unfortunately current Speaker Joe Straus’ last YCT rating was a paltry 67%–he is not a pro-life conservative, (his wife was on the Board of Planned Parenthood and he was even given an award by them for his “tireless efforts”), and he has been supported by pro-gambling interests.  He even won the speaker’s race by joining with the left, not conservatives, and actively thwarted many conservative issues at the last session. Last, the redistricting he sent to the Governor rewarded his cronies and penalized conservative critics harshly.  That is why it was hard for conservatives to get much done in the 82ndlegislature even with a large majority. If that happens again all conservative efforts in the legislature are in trouble. Fortunately, in District 121 conservatives have an able challenger in Matt Beebe,  website, who would be a much more distinctly conservative choice that the unreliable Straus.  Make no mistake about it.  This primary election in district 121 is the chance that Tea Party and other conservatives have for stopping this speaker.  If he wins the primary he will win the general election in November and will be too powerful to not get the speakership again. Please actively encourage your friends, family and church family to campaign for and vote for Matt Beebe!
