Texas Bold ~ Speaker Showdown

Texas State Reps. Please listen up~

From friend :

I got paid today. Several hundred dollars less and I am paid bi-weekly, which means double the loss for the month. I have to make some personal cuts from my life now. This means others will not be getting from me what they once received. Money taken out of the economy to “punish the rich” that is, in fact, punishing not the so-called “rich” but the true purpose of PROGRESSIVES, which is to punish us. We, The People. Does Boehner and ALL the Rep’s in the House fully realize what they did the other day? If any person in Congress, and those up for re-election in the Senate in 2014, who voted YES on raising our taxes, gets re-elected, then the voters of that district or state are one of a few things:

1) Progressives.
2) Communists.
3) Liberals.
4) Low Information Voters.
5) Democrats.
6) RINO’s.
7) Asleep.
8) Just don’t care.
9) The Candidate his or herself.
10) STUPID.

You cannot legislate the poor into afluency. You cannot legislate “fair” to one group because it’s ALWAYS UN fair to another. You should not lie, steal, rape, murder, plunder, ingratiate, befuddle, confuse, smear, nor infiltrate the power structures because power seized, not bestowed, often burns the hand that seizes it.

America? Are you out there? If this continues, you won’t be for long.

Texas House Speaker Showdown

From the site ~ www.SpeakerShowdown.com

Texas is a state where the rules apply fairly to all sides…right? Well, not if Joe Straus stays Speaker of the House.

Joe Straus opposes Gov. Perry, Lt. Gov. Dewhurst, the majority of the House, and grassroots Texans when it comes to most issues. And it shows.

When Gov. Perry proposed a set of common sense budget guidelines in his Texas Budget Compact, Straus wouldn’t sign on.
When Obama trumpeted that “we can’t cut our way to prosperity” so we need to raise taxes, well, Straus was right there with him saying the exact same thing. (Seriously, you can check it out here.) Well, we can’t tax our way to prosperity either, Speaker Straus!

Winston Churchill

“We contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle.”
Winston Churchill

Texans America is being SOLD OUT by the Political Class ~ It does not matter whether there is an R or a D by their name.
Please Call, Tweet, Facebook and e-mail do what ever you can between now and Jan. 8th to let your State Rep. know it is time for them to Stand up straight and accept the burden.  This is not about what pork they can take back to their district , this is not about what committee assignment they get. To be frank this is not about them and their power or positon. This is about Texas!!
“Middle-class workers will take a bigger hit to their income proportionately than those earning between $200,000 and $500,000 under the new fiscal cliff deal, according to the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center. Earners in the latter group will pay an average 1.3 percent more – or an additional $2,711 – in taxes this year, while workers making between $30,000 and $200,000 will see their paychecks shrink by as much as 1.7 percent – or up to $1,784 – the D.C.-based think tank reported. Overall, nearly 80 percent of households will pay more money to the federal government as a result of the fiscal cliff deal.”
Do you realize what effect the new deal Boehner cut with Obama will have on Texans?
How the New Limits on Deductions and Exemptions Might Work

Click Photo to see the interactive chart

The tax deal reached by Congress would begin phasing out personal exemptions and many deductions for people with adjusted gross incomes over $250,000 for singles and $300,000 for couples. The impact on a hypothetical couple earning $400,000 a year, with two children, would vary by state.

CCH ran two hypothetical cases for me, which you can see in the accompanying graphic. The first examined a family of four in New York with $400,000 in adjusted gross income and $79,000 in total itemized deductions. The household pays the A.M.T. in both 2012 and under the new tax rules in 2013. They pay just $790 more in 2013, but that includes $1,350 in new Medicare taxes. (The total does not include the Social Security payroll tax that has been restored to its prerecession level.)

A family in Texas, however, might have the same income but lower property taxes and no income tax and thus lower deductions for its federal tax return. Their deductions are just $43,700, but they end up being hurt more by the new rules. They would have no A.M.T. liability in 2013 and would end up paying $3,852 more, or about $2,500 if you don’t count the $1,350 from the new Medicare tax.

So I ask you Mr. or Mrs. Texas State Rep.  are you willing to fight for Texas or are you willing to go along with a Speaker of the House who ….. “When Obama trumpeted that “we can’t cut our way to prosperity” so we need to raise taxes, well, Straus was right there with him saying the exact same thing. (Seriously, you can check it out here.) Well, we can’t tax our way to prosperity either, Speaker Straus!

Again this is not about you, it is much bigger than you!! Although YOU are who God has put in place for “Such A Time As This” I encourage you please listen to Texas Conservative Hawk Bill Zedler, take it in and soak it up.

Now be TEXAS BOLD vote against Joe Straus and for David Simpson for Speaker of the House in Texas!!

If you are a Conservative Texas State Rep. I highly recommend that you read this article. Texas conservative responsibility before deciding who to vote for as Speaker of the Texas House.

Jodie Labenberg~ Texas Bold or Texas Weak?

Date posted: January 3, 2013

Jodie Laubenberg ~ Dallas Morning News

State Rep. Jodie Laubenberg, R-Parker (2010 photo courtesy of Rep. Jodie Laubenberg)

As we reported back in Dec. from the Dallas Morning News, Jodie Laubenberg stated she needed to choose her words carefully.

Why is that?

“North Texas conservative state Rep. Jodie Laubenberg supports Speaker Joe Straus’ re-election as the Texas House’s presiding officer, even as outside groups are ratcheting up their rhetoric against Straus and anyone fearless enough to predict he’ll win a third term as speaker next month.

On Tuesday afternoon, Laubenberg, R-Parker, confirmed in a text message that she announced her decision to vote for Straus at a town hall meeting Monday night.

Laubenberg, who was in Austin attending a House committee meeting, declined to elaborate. At first, she cited the press of business. Later, she suggested she needs to choose her words carefully.”

Wayne Richard Show with Jodie LaubenbergWe maybe we will get some answers~

She is going to be on the Wayne Richard show this Sat. and you will not want to miss it. I had the opportunity to be on the Wayne Richard show last Sat. and you can listen to that show, just Click Here.

Jodie Laubenbeg’s interview with Wayne will be an important interview for Jodie as some of her constituents have expressed frustration with her announcement. As have many grassroots/tea party activists from across the state.  The scheduled interview will provide Jodie an opportunity to share what her motivation and thoughts are regarding the upcoming vote. www.WayneRichardShow.com

My hope is that Jodie Laubenberg is listening to the people because Your Voices Should Count ~ #SpeakerShowdown is underway in the #Txlege

As Ray Myers says…..

Our elected officials at the state level are discounting your voice. They only listen to you at election time when they need your vote. It is time for that to change.

Make your voice heard by contacting your State Representative and voicing  your opinion about the upcoming Speaker of the House election in Austin.

On January 8, your State Rep will cast the most important vote during the entire legislative session. The election of the Speaker of the House will set the agenda for the legislature. The Speaker and his committee selections will determine what legislation passes or fails. This includes the state’s budget, school finance, transportation, immigration, health and human services, and natural resources.

We need a Speaker who reflects the core values of Texans. Let’s keep Texas strong by electing a strong Speaker. Tell your State Representative to vote for David Simpson for Speaker.

The great new site has been launched to make it very easy to find out who your State Rep. is and how to contact them.  Click here see the report-then email or call your State Rep.

Conservative Alert! Make Your Voice Heard on the Next Speaker of the Texas House

Date posted: December 27, 2012

Below is a copy of a letter that I sent out this week to 8 thousand GOP delegate households.

Texas Conservative Alert

Dear Fellow Conservative Texan,

While many of us are still devastated from our recent losses on the national political scene, it is extremely important that we refocus our attention and energy to what is going on in our own state. In November 2010, a conservative revolution began in Texas, which has continued through the 2012 primary, primary runoffs, and general election. And while the electorate has made its desires clear, key leaders in Austin have stifled our movement’s progress—none more so than Speaker of the Texas House Joe Straus.

While Texans have continually selected the most conservative candidate in the primary and elected them to office in November, true conservative reforms of state government have been slowed or outright stopped by the decisions of Speaker Straus. It is time voters exercised their power to select a new Speaker—one who is committed to allowing the conservative values of our Representatives, and those of the people they represent, to be heard. Here are a few of the more troubling aspects of Speaker Straus’ record:

• Joe Straus, as a State Representative, has pro-abortion votes he refuses to explain. In 2007, Straus earned a 100% NARAL Pro-Choice Texas rating. He is still on record as supporting the existing abortion law Roe v. Wade.

• Joe Straus is on the record as stating that we can not “cut our way to prosperity,” which echoes the sentiments of Barack Obama nationally. Rick Perry and David Dewhurst have both signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, which is a firm pledge to oppose any tax increases, while Straus has not.

Joe Straus’ handling of redistricting has revealed a disdain for grassroots conservative legislators and voters. Leaked emails from his top level staff and key lieutenants illustrate a hostile stance against our movement and its leaders, who opted for the most conservative maps possible. Straus’ team openly mocked efforts to further our cause. (RedState.com has more details)

Rick Perry and David Dewhurst have come out and stood firm against implementing Obamacare on Texans. In fact, of the top 3 leaders in Texas, Joe Straus is the only leader one who is unwilling to oppose enacting Obamacare in Texas. When pressed, he said he had to bring all the stakeholders together and decide. Why is this a hard decision? Obamacare is harmful to the strength of our state and its economy—plain and simple.

As voters, we can—and rightfully should—inject ourselves in the selection of the next Speaker of the Texas House. Joe Straus originally came to power by forming a coalition of 65 Democrats and 11 Republicans. Conservatives can do better. We must put pressure on our State Representatives, and urge them to pursue of a better steward of our conservative principles in the Texas Legislature.

I ask that you call and email your state representative. Let them know where you, the grassroots, stand on this pivotal issue. Our elected officials need to know that we stand behind them—and that when their term is up, they can count on our support.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

Alice Linahan

The Opposition to Joe Straus Grows and Some Republicans are Caught~

Date posted: December 26, 2012

As our friend over at AgendaWise.com Weston Hicks states…. “The conservative movement in Texas is alive and well.”

The question is are all Conservatives ready and willing to fight the good fight to save Texas from the “Moderate Establishment” that is working hard to keep the status quo and take Texas down the road the rest of the country is heading?

First let’s start by reporting on events and what is happening across the state as the Grassroots calls on Texas State Reps. to Oust Straus!

“Stop me if you have heard this one before. Two Republican State Representatives hold a town hall to gather input from their constituents on Texas House leadership…Oh, you have heard this before! Well, I am not surprised because the same story seems to keep repeating in town halls across the State.” ~Dale Huls (ClearLake Tea Party Leader)

The Central Texas Tea Party is taking action to expose the corruption in the Speakers race.

Joe Straus ~ “Abuse of Power” in the People’s House

Ralph Sheffield Below is a “Letter to the Editor “– Abuse of Power in the People’s House was submitted by Billy Rowton in Temple , Texas.  The letter was created in collaboration with members of the Central Texas Tea Party.

The peddling of influence to include giving campaign contributions and promises of power in return for support is not only disgraceful; it’s against the law in Texas.  So is the act of punishing legislators.  Speaking to civic groups, State Representative Ralph Sheffield has often talked about the inner workings of Austin not realizing he was confusing “abuse of power” for political savvy.  He told one group that Speaker Joe Straus punished “R’s” and “D’s”1 (Republicans and Democrats). Later he changed his story; “It’s not punishment; it’s just part of the process.”

This abuse of power stifles our ability to base legislation solely on merit.  The issue was significant enough for the Party Platform to call for representatives “to hold public town hall meetings in which the voters can express their wishes and thoughts about the leadership for the 83rd Session.”  This is in alignment with the “consent of the governed” appeal in our Declaration of Independence.

Recently, constituents in Ralph Sheffield’s district requested the town-hall meeting as specified by the platform, and they were met with an unconcerned politician beholden to Speaker Straus.  We shouldn’t be surprised by Sheffield’s rejection of his constituents.  Once money is accepted from the Speaker and choice committee assignments 3 have been received, one can only expect that cronyism would overpower principle.

Abuse of power and unprincipled politicians are the greatest threat facing our nation and state.  The fast-approaching election of the next Texas Speaker of the House will speak volumes about how we stand in Texas.

Billy RowtonTemple, Texas

As reported in Clear Lake Texas…

Texas Leadership Town Hall with Rep. John Davis and Rep.-elect Greg BonnenMake no mistake; Rep. Davis is a staunch supporter of Speaker Straus. He repeatedly espoused his position on the Speaker throughout the primary season. He has firmly and repeatedly told his constituents multiple times that he will support the Speaker. With that said, why would Rep. Davis hold a town hall to garner voter input for the Speaker’s race? His decision has already been made. Was it to really listen to his constituents about why they are requesting a change in the Republican House leadership or was it to explain away the public’s question regarding Straus and to justify why he supports re-electing the Speaker? Unfortunately, the night’s questioning only revealed the Straus talking points that you can hear at practically any other Republican State Rep town hall meant to allow the public to voice their opinions. These talking points consisted of:

  • Joe Straus is a “conservative.” The proof of which was that he had worked in the Reagan Administration, he has always been a Republican, and in the last session he oversaw the passage of the sonogram bill, voter ID, and defunded planned parenthood.

Yet, wasn’t the passage of this conservative legislation the result of the Governor’s special topics and a determined group of Republican legislators who planned and executed a remarkable strategy to defund Planned Parenthood. The best that can be said about the Speaker’s role in passing this legislation was that he didn’t try to kill it in the face of a Republican super-majority  However, there are numerous examples of conservative bills being stymied by Straus Committee chairs and the most egregious being Speaker Straus’ personally blocking the TSA Anti-Groping Bill that was passed unanimously by the House both Republican and Democrat.

The political establishment/PR Consultants seem to have their troops falling in line. But the grassroots are calling them out on it time after time across the state. Here is an account of what happened at the Davis/Bonnen town hall.

“Eva, one of our very active, & vocal, member’s made a comment in response to something Davis had said. When he stated that he was voting for Straus because we just didn’t know how things work and Straus knows how to get things done. She made a point that I had not thought of yet.
Eva told Davis, “How dare you insult my intelligence by telling me that I do not know how “things” work in the TX House! You may be privy to information that we don’t have access to but I have been in your office numerous times, walked the halls, followed bills, lobbied, have watched votes, from the gallery, and have met with you outside the gallery doors. Do not tell me that I am not smart enough to know what is going on in Austin.” It was epic!”

In Johnson and Bosque County Conservative Voters are taking action. After a townhall meeting where Rep. Rob Orr says he will support Joe Straus a full page color ad was taken out in the local paper (Burleson Star).

Barry Schlech is asking…. “Why would the citizenry of Texas or any fellow House member support a man who was

Why?…money?, influence?, power?, enhancing his business enterprises? Are these his motivations? Of course they are!”

#SpeakerShowdown is underway in the #Txlege

Interesting to note Kenneth Sheets and Cindy Burkett came out at a town-hall meeting as well in support of Straus. Reports from grassroots leaders who attended the Garland event stated.

“I attended the so-called “Town Hall Meeting” put on by Representative Cindy Burkett, Kenneth Sheets and Representative Linda Harper Brown.

To be blunt, I was insulted, horrified and finally outraged by what transpired at this event, and now more than ever it is clear that true conservative Texans need to be awake, aware and constantly vigilant if we are ever going to restore the will of the people as the guidance in our governance.

Rather than conduct a real, constructive Townhall Meeting, the Legislators decided to generate more fear and acrimony about coming changes in the national scene, and then offer the same old “tax break” dog and pony show regarding property taxes that so many of us have seen before, as their “offset” to the coming Obamalypse!”

As you can see the Texas Grassroots/Tea Party folks are awake and taking notice to what is happening on the ground in Texas.

What will be interesting to see is whether the Texas State Representatives will wake up to reality?

True Texas Conservatives are once again saying “Joe Straus Must Go” as Texas House Speaker in 2013! The Texas Tea Party delivered on their promises during Speaker Showdown I in 2011 when the battle cry became “Conservative House Speaker Or Your Seat.” Though Straus took out 3 key conservative who voted against him in 2011 known as “The Texas 15″ through his REDISTRICTING RETRIBUTION Straus LOST MANY more of his Lieutenants.”

As Weston Hicks with Agenda Wise states clearly is that a vote for  Straus is even less defensible in-district. He has raised the price for House conservatives to vote for him.

“But, as a matter of fact, the House isn’t the same as last time. It is better. Straus dynamics aside, the House has many more conviction conservatives. This makes the speaker race stronger this time.

Finally, if transparency and accountability are good things, running a speaker race, regardless of the outcome, is excellent for the state of Texas.

This is because normal order in politics is to have a small band of unapologetic bad guys in the legislature, a small band of unapologetic good guys in the legislature, and a huge ambiguous middle who are relatively unsorted.

The speaker’s race changes all of that. It basically provides Texans rankings for the entire House. Who has guts, and did they have it early, middle, or late?

And anyway, the original conservative movement took 30 years to win on the national level.

The reinvigorated Texas conservative movement will take nowhere near as long, but must possess the patience and resolve the original movement had, if it is to provide strength to America.

This type of resolve creates an Obi-Wan Kenobi effect. A battle loss is a win, because it serves to inform average citizens of what kind of reinforcements are needed. Losses become movement accounting and team-building.

Without bold, consistent moves like these, the movement operates in the dark.

Tired and cowardly conservatives who are out talking down the speaker’s race know not the forces they are playing with.

If they were to crush the speaker race, as they have already failed at doing, they would sink Texas squarely into Obama’s hopeless America with 46 other states. It would be left to three states, and none of them mighty Texas, to reignite hope for Americans who love America as founded.

It is our responsibility to cultivate the flame, not to lay down arms and walk willingly into Obama’s America.

Every conservative politician and activist first got involved to fix the system. The argument against the speaker race boils down to “leave the system alone”.

This isn’t good enough. Conservatives with a fighting spirit are ready for battle, and will benefit from their boldness. Conservatives who can’t stomach the fight should step aside for someone who understands where we are in time, and what is needed.”

If you are ready to take a stand call your State Representative today  Here is a list of them. Tell them to vote for the most Conservative Candidate in the Race for Speaker; David Simpson and then join us in Austin Jan. 7th and 8th.

Texas Conservative Responsibility ~ AgendaWise.com

Date posted:

The message in the article by Agenda Wise.com that is linked below is very important. I hope you will take the time to read it and take action. Now that we have had time to stop and celebrate the birth of our Savior it is very important that we get back in the battle to save Texas and our Nation.

flame-1

The conservative movement in Texas is alive and well.

Sadly, 46 states are languishing in Obama’s America, with a loss of hope that can only be described as un-American.

Hope has been maintained in three out of fifty states. All three – Wisconsin, Michigan, and Kansas – are infused with hope due to healthy conservative movements accomplishing things like card check. These states know what it looks like for the ruling class to lose, and, as a result, have hope.

Texas is the fourth state that hasn’t descended fully into Obama’s America. Texas defunded Planned Parenthood last session, giving Texans a reason to feel good about ourselves. Texans preserved an honest witness in the legislature by rejecting the “we were conservative” chant lead by Speaker Straus.

This set the stage for a dramatic improvement in the makeup of the House during the primaries. Many powerful crony moderates lost in favor of conservative statesmen.

The speaker’s race is a principle manifestation of what makes Texas the fourth state not relegated to Obama’s America. For many reasons, the speaker race is stronger, and more necessary, than it was last session.

For one thing, Speaker Straus said long ago he wanted to be speaker for only three sessions. The next one would be his third. This means that he would spend zero political capital if he became so unpopular that he can’t be re-elected speaker next time. He has “yep, my three sessions are up” to fall back on. This will make him bold.

In short, a third Straus term would have the same dynamic as Obama’s scary second term, because Straus doesn’t have to be political anymore. Conservatives beware.

Next, Straus has removed cover for conservatives to vote for him. Remember the last speaker race? He danced his heart out to the fiscal and social conservative tune. Now Straus has turned the music off.

Straus is opposing the Governor and Lt. Governor on the issue of the Texas Budget Compact. Straus campaigned for new revenues without lifting a finger to find efficiency or waste in government. He’s gone public as a fiscal moderate.

Straus is also rumored to be telling social conservatives to save ink by not submitting any bills to make Texas less dangerous for its unborn. According to the Texas Tribune, Straus strongly implied this session’s important abortion legislation – the fetal pain bill – isn’t a priority. He’s gone public as a social moderate.

These things make a Straus vote even less defensible in-district. He has raised the price for House conservatives to vote for him.

But, as a matter of fact, the House isn’t the same as last time. It is better. Straus dynamics aside, the House has many more conviction conservatives. This makes the speaker race stronger this time.

Finally, if transparency and accountability are good things, running a speaker race, regardless of the outcome, is excellent for the state of Texas.
