Warnings from Texas Bloggers ~ Speaker Joe Straus can not be trusted!

Date posted: July 1, 2013

From our friends over at AgendaWise.com

Texas Moms and DadsZero Tolerance on Delay

Unborn Texans over 20 weeks old have an enemy in delay tactics. Pro-life Texans should be on the look out for them in the upcoming special session.

An SB5 replica bill should need virtually nothing besides basic legislative procedure. Watch out for things like putting other issues first, taking time off, putting up a different pro-life bill so they can argue about it, and so on.

This is the season that politicians try to get grassroots support for their next primary. They will ask people what they can do to gain their support.

Though understandable, it not a particularly fair question to ask grassroots leaders. There is no promise a politician can make that will mean more to the grassroots than a politician’s record, and grassroots leaders aren’t in it for perks.

The days of getting credit for giving a good effort are rapidly coming to a close. The one thing politicians can do for themselves is get results.

Besides, if GOP leaders can’t get results with 95 Republicans in the House, 19 in the Senate, Republicans in every major statewide office, and virtually all of them claiming to be conservative on every issue, they shouldn’t expect primary season promises to get them very much.

Let us take you down memory lane with Joe Straus.

From our good friend Adam Cahnman ~

History Lesson: Joe Straus and Planned Parenthood

Heading into the second special session of the 83rd Texas Legislature, Cahnman’s Musings is thrilled to see how many ideologically sympathetic Christians are paying detailed attention for the first time.  This type of civic stewardship has been missing in America for a long time.  Welcome.

Cahnman’s Musings feels led to warn you about the political games that get played in the Texas Legislature.  The Texas Legislature, especially the Republican leadership of the Texas House, loves to talk a big game while working behind the scenes to maintain the status quo.  Behind most of the shenanigans, you find Texas House Speaker Joe Straus (R – Lobbyists San Antonio).

And Joe Straus has a long history with Planned Parenthood.

During the 1990’s, Straus’ wife served on the board for the San Antonio chapter of Planned Parenthood.  In 2007, Straus co-authored sex-ed legislation that was supported by Planned Parenthood.  In 2008, Planned Parenthood donated money to Straus’ re-election campaign.  In 2009, Planned Parenthood thanked Straus for his efforts (after he had become speaker).  Just yesterday, Straus sided with Wendy Davis over Governor Perry.

During the first special session, there was speculation that Straus was working to delay the bill.  Who knows?!?  But it does seem strange that a shrewd legislative tactician like Joe Straus would mismanage the calendar by accident.

Make Calls NOW~ Spending Up 26%! Texas Legislature Takes Wild Left Turn & Spends like there’s No Tomorrow

Date posted: May 24, 2013

Photo Courtesy of the Texas Tribune

Photo Courtesy of the Texas Tribune

Alert from: JoAnn Fleming, Chairman, TX Legislature’s TEA Party Caucus Advisory Committee; Executive Director, Grassroots America

The news is bad – very bad. A majority in the Texas House and Senate (yes, a majority of Republicans) have gone on a wild spending spree! We have one last chance to stop it. Please help us kill HB 1025 and SB 1 to force a special session. We believe we can get a more conservative budget when all the focus is on spending.
The bad news – if HB 1025 (supplemental spending bill) and SB 1 (budget) pass, this happens:

·        The $1.8 billion in tax relief called for by the Governor is slashed because a majority of the legislature went on a spending spree. The Legislature includes about half of the Governor’s request (about $900 million) and wants to count $631 million in a one-time electrical ratepayer fee rebate for about 80% of Texans as a tax cut—which it isn’t.

·        The budget will exceed the state’s constitutional spending limit. They will bust the spending cap! The big spenders seek to circumvent the spending limit through SJR 1, the constitutional amendment to be approved by voters in November. They are changing the definition of “busting the cap” so they can say they didn’t…sounds just like Washington, DC!

·        Though they had more than $13 billion in new general revenue (GR) on hand for the 2014-15 budget, House & Senate budget appropriators did not include money in the budget for “pay as you go” highway funding or provide taxpayers with a meaningful tax cut. Instead, they spent it all and want to raid the Rainy Day Fund too!

·        The Legislature has decided to raid the state’s Economic Stabilization Fund (Rainy Day Fund) for almost $4 billion. The ESF was intended to protect against the pressure for a tax increase during an economic downturn. Instead, this budget uses the Rainy Day Fund to explode spending during a time of plenty, cutting the fund balance in half—from $8 billion to $4 billion. This leaves Texas vulnerable if the national economy continues to falter or we have a natural or manmade disaster.

·        The Legislature will appropriate approximately $106 billion in General Revenue and Rainy Day funds. This is an increase of $22 billion, or 26%, over last session! (This is a session to session, not a budget to budget, comparison.)

·        The total of all funds (including federal funds) in the new budget looks to be about $214 billion, an increase of about $38 billion, or 21%, over what was appropriated in 2011. (This is a session to session, not a budget to budget, comparison.)

·        This level of spending is proof most legislators are tone deaf (94% of 2012 Republican primary voters signaled they wanted spending cut). They willingly ignore the unstable national and global economies. This is a threat to a strong Texas and should be treated as an assault on liberty.

·        This spending repeats the mistake of the 79th TX Legislature (2005). After the 78th Legislature (2003) held the line on spending, the 79thLegislature went on a spending spree that led to the 2011 $15 billion budget shortfall. It could happen again. Are the big spenders setting the stage for gambling and/or and income tax next session?

·        This spending rejects principles of fiscal conservatism in exchange for a big-gov’t approach like those of the other big-five states: CA, NY, IL, FL.

·       This budget is a threat to the economic prosperity of Texas citizens, families, and communities. It is a threat to Texas – the best hope for enduring freedom in these United States.

It is time for YOU to come to the aid of Texas! Call, e-mail, text, FaceBook, and Tweet your state representative as soon as possible! Melt the phone lines starting NOW and call all day! Call your representative’s district offices and Capitol office. Tell him/her you do not support the budget and you support a special session to get it right. Ask them to vote down HB 1025 & SB 1.  Be firm and employ the Golden Rule.  Yelling and cursing doesn’t make them hear you, in fact, it can have the opposite effect.

To find your state representative click here.
For good measure, call your state senator & declare you don’t support the budget, click here.
Call Governor Perry’s office & ask him to veto the budget if it passes!(512) 463-2000

Texas Leaders Sell their Souls and Texans are left paying for it…..

Date posted: April 29, 2013

Corruption in Texas Politics at it’s worst.

Remember this post from when we were warning about Joe Straus~

Well we were right and now Perry and Dewhurst are making deals.

Below is an e-mail I just received.

“A friend sent the following along with her research on what the Rainy Day Fund really is.  It  follows under the title “Economic Stabilization Fund”.

“Yesterday in Austin, the Freshmen (you know, the fabulous conservatives we’ve all been excited about!) were split into groups for separate meetings and pressured to vote to raid the Rainy Day Fund (RDF) for $2 billion to fund the new water plan. The vote requires 100 supporters, so the freshmen votes are necessary to make it work. They are being told if they do not vote for it, the rest of the Republicans will instead make a deal with the Dems and will agree to spend $4-5 billion of the RDF instead of $2 billion. In return for their vote to raid the RDF, they are being promised cuts to the Business Margins tax, that the fetal pain bill and the campus carry bill will be sent to the floor for a vote (instead of being held up in committee), tax credits for R&D, and money from lobbyists. (These deals are all under the table). There is also an expectation that in a meeting w/ Perry on Monday he will pressure them to support this plan and in return will promise to veto any effort to raise the spending cap. Of course, these folks have made promises before and not kept them.

Corruption in Texas Politics

The pressure is immense. In a room with 10 freshmen, 8 signed pledges to support this plan. Hey, spending $2 billion is less than spending $5 billion, right? HOW ABOUT NOT SPENDING ANY??? What happened to that plan? And shame on any legislator that uses life and safety issues to manipulate others in giving them what they want.

Many of the conservative freshmen campaigned on a promise to protect the RDF and even put it in writing. If they now vote for raiding the RDF, their challengers will have a heyday with it. And not only that, it’s just not the right answer anyway!

The vote happens at 2pm on Monday.”

Now that you know the back room story….

Busting The Cap, Without Relief

Excerts From Michael Quinn Sullivan with Empower Texans~ Read the full article here.

“When members of the Texas House meet on Monday, they will take the next-to-last step in busting the state’s spending cap. This coming in a session that has produced no lasting budget reforms and no real tax relief, despite a biennium with the largest jump in state revenues in modern history. Worse, legislators are poised to do so with a massive draw from the rainy day fund.

Legislative leaders – from Speaker Joe Straus on down – are reportedly promising some conservatives that if they will just vote for this $2 billion draw and set the stage for busting the cap, then they will now move some of the conservatives’ legislation. Just trust them. Trust them? Isn’t this a GOP majority? Shouldn’t that conservative legislation be moving anyway? But it’s not.

Others may scheme, but we have to stand on principle, and fight with valor and integrity.

(Remember: this is the same House leadership which keeps scheming for ways to implement ObamaCare in Texas by expanding Medicaid. Another Medicaid expansion push is rumored to be on its way to the floor this week.)

Conservative legislators voting for bad policies in the hopes of getting good legislation to move might do well to remember that selling out will rarely provide the pay-day they expect.

Others may scheme, but we have to stand on principle, and fight with valor and integrity.

Lawmakers started with a lot of promises, and even more money. They’ve blown through the cash, and are trying to grab even more. And thanks to a leadership undermining conservatives, those pledges are evaporating faster than water in August.

Republicans have a Primary Problem~

Date posted: January 15, 2013

It is true.

Think about this for a moment. Weston Hicks stated in the article

Texas Conservative Responsibility ~ AgendaWise.com

“……if transparency and accountability are good things, running a speaker race, regardless of the outcome, is excellent for the state of Texas.

This is because normal order in politics is to have a small band of unapologetic bad guys in the legislature, a small band of unapologetic good guys in the legislature, and a huge ambiguous middle who are relatively unsorted.

The speaker’s race changes all of that. It basically provides Texans rankings for the entire House. Who has guts, and did they have it early, middle, or late?”

What is interesting about what has transpired on the ground as the speakers race unfoldeded is the the huge ambiguous middle has been exposed. With the networking and coordination of Tea Party/Grassroots/Conservative Republican/Conservative Libertarians the political establishment is going to be hearing from folks at home. Get ready for the primary because it is time to clean the Texas House!

What I witnessed today during the rule amendment hearings was a mocking of the people through a coordinated effort of Straus his followers and the Democrats.

Here is what Texans want to see. Elected Representatives fighting for Texas- Win or lose stand up and expose the corruption in Politics.

Here is an article from the New American discussing the Keep Texas Strong Speaker Showdown. The comment at the bottom of the article says it best.

It is extremely disheartening to see the continuation of the “politics as usual”. With continued pressure from the citizens of Texas and of the United States of America, at some point in the future we may see a return to the Republic(s) as they were founded.

We may also see individuals in our legislature and in the US Congress who actually have the courage that our founder found within themselves. Here we have “fear” of losing power within our legislature, how truly sad this is when you consider the men who feared losing freedom over losing power in a legislative body.

We no longer have any representatives with the convictions and courage to stand for the individual rights of their countrymen. What we have is a powerful coffee clutch who are so fearful of losing their place amongst the powerful that they would continue to allow unprincipled individuals to dictate to them how things will be done.

The argument is one that tries to defy the logic of our founding documents. Our founding documents created a country that was free of the fear of the powerful. Instead we have come full circle back to little dictators, all concerned that they will lose their place among the privileged.

I am tired of the games, I am amazed that so many of my fellow activists will not call out the cowards when we see them. Our Republic was set up to survive zealous, hot, emotional debates, sadly we no longer have them.

Why is there such a fear? Have all our representatives forgotten that “We, The People” have your back? Find your courage, We, The People are no longer sleeping and we demand your loyalty. We will no longer sit back while you play games with our lives.

I hear Strauss is a betting man, is he really betting against the people of Texas?

“If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.”  –  Samuel Adams

Call to Action ~ Join the Movement ~ Are you Texas Bold or Texas Weak Mr. or Ms. State Rep?

Texas Bold ~ Speaker Showdown

Texas State Reps. Please listen up~

From friend :

I got paid today. Several hundred dollars less and I am paid bi-weekly, which means double the loss for the month. I have to make some personal cuts from my life now. This means others will not be getting from me what they once received. Money taken out of the economy to “punish the rich” that is, in fact, punishing not the so-called “rich” but the true purpose of PROGRESSIVES, which is to punish us. We, The People. Does Boehner and ALL the Rep’s in the House fully realize what they did the other day? If any person in Congress, and those up for re-election in the Senate in 2014, who voted YES on raising our taxes, gets re-elected, then the voters of that district or state are one of a few things:

1) Progressives.
2) Communists.
3) Liberals.
4) Low Information Voters.
5) Democrats.
6) RINO’s.
7) Asleep.
8) Just don’t care.
9) The Candidate his or herself.
10) STUPID.

You cannot legislate the poor into afluency. You cannot legislate “fair” to one group because it’s ALWAYS UN fair to another. You should not lie, steal, rape, murder, plunder, ingratiate, befuddle, confuse, smear, nor infiltrate the power structures because power seized, not bestowed, often burns the hand that seizes it.

America? Are you out there? If this continues, you won’t be for long.

Texas is a state where the rules apply fairly to all sides…right? Well, not if Joe Straus stays Speaker of the House.

Joe Straus opposes Gov. Perry, Lt. Gov. Dewhurst, the majority of the House, and grassroots Texans when it comes to most issues. And it shows.

When Gov. Perry proposed a set of common sense budget guidelines in his Texas Budget Compact, Straus wouldn’t sign on.
When Obama trumpeted that “we can’t cut our way to prosperity” so we need to raise taxes, well, Straus was right there with him saying the exact same thing. (Seriously, you can check it out here.) Well, we can’t tax our way to prosperity either, Speaker Straus!

Winston Churchill

“We contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle.”
Winston Churchill

Texans America is being SOLD OUT by the Political Class ~ It does not matter whether there is an R or a D by their name.
Please Call, Tweet, Facebook and e-mail do what ever you can between now and Jan. 8th to let your State Rep. know it is time for them to Stand up straight and accept the burden.  This is not about what pork they can take back to their district , this is not about what committee assignment they get. To be frank this is not about them and their power or positon. This is about Texas!!
“Middle-class workers will take a bigger hit to their income proportionately than those earning between $200,000 and $500,000 under the new fiscal cliff deal, according to the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center. Earners in the latter group will pay an average 1.3 percent more – or an additional $2,711 – in taxes this year, while workers making between $30,000 and $200,000 will see their paychecks shrink by as much as 1.7 percent – or up to $1,784 – the D.C.-based think tank reported. Overall, nearly 80 percent of households will pay more money to the federal government as a result of the fiscal cliff deal.”
Do you realize what effect the new deal Boehner cut with Obama will have on Texans?
How the New Limits on Deductions and Exemptions Might Work

Click Photo to see the interactive chart

The tax deal reached by Congress would begin phasing out personal exemptions and many deductions for people with adjusted gross incomes over $250,000 for singles and $300,000 for couples. The impact on a hypothetical couple earning $400,000 a year, with two children, would vary by state.

CCH ran two hypothetical cases for me, which you can see in the accompanying graphic. The first examined a family of four in New York with $400,000 in adjusted gross income and $79,000 in total itemized deductions. The household pays the A.M.T. in both 2012 and under the new tax rules in 2013. They pay just $790 more in 2013, but that includes $1,350 in new Medicare taxes. (The total does not include the Social Security payroll tax that has been restored to its prerecession level.)

A family in Texas, however, might have the same income but lower property taxes and no income tax and thus lower deductions for its federal tax return. Their deductions are just $43,700, but they end up being hurt more by the new rules. They would have no A.M.T. liability in 2013 and would end up paying $3,852 more, or about $2,500 if you don’t count the $1,350 from the new Medicare tax.

So I ask you Mr. or Mrs. Texas State Rep.  are you willing to fight for Texas or are you willing to go along with a Speaker of the House who ….. “When Obama trumpeted that “we can’t cut our way to prosperity” so we need to raise taxes, well, Straus was right there with him saying the exact same thing. (Seriously, you can check it out here.) Well, we can’t tax our way to prosperity either, Speaker Straus!

Again this is not about you, it is much bigger than you!! Although YOU are who God has put in place for “Such A Time As This” I encourage you please listen to Texas Conservative Hawk Bill Zedler, take it in and soak it up.

Now be TEXAS BOLD vote against Joe Straus and for David Simpson for Speaker of the House in Texas!!

If you are a Conservative Texas State Rep. I highly recommend that you read this article. Texas conservative responsibility before deciding who to vote for as Speaker of the Texas House.

Knowledge is Power and together we can make the difference!!
