Your Voices Should Count ~ #SpeakerShowdown is underway in the #Txlege

 Texas House Speaker Showdown
Our elected officials at the state level are discounting your voice. They only listen to you at election time when they need your vote. It is time for that to change.
Make your voice heard by contacting your State Representative and voicing  your opinion about the upcoming Speaker of the House election in Austin.

On January 8, your State Rep will cast the most important vote during the entire legislative session. The election of the Speaker of the House will set the agenda for the legislature. The Speaker and his committee selections will determine what legislation passes or fails. This includes the state’s budget, school finance, transportation, immigration, health and human services, and natural resources.

We need a Speaker who reflects the core values of Texans. Let’s keep Texas strong by electing a strong Speaker. Tell your State Representative to vote for David Simpson for Speaker.

A Great new site has just been launched to make it very easy to find out who your State Rep. is and how to contact them.  Click here see the report-then email or call your State Rep.

Speaker Joe Straus

To reinforce the message that electing a significant margin of conservative House representatives signals voter expectations of conservative House leadership, WomenOnTheWall.org has released Texas Speaker Showdown II – WE’RE BACK! video follow-up to the 2010 Speaker Showdown theme. “Conservative House Speaker Or Your Seat.”

If you are ready to take a stand call your State Representative today  Click here to do just that. Tell them to vote for the most Conservative Candidate in the Race for Speaker; David Simpson and then join us in Austin Jan. 7th and 8th.

Joe Straus ~ “Abuse of Power” in the People’s House

Date posted: December 22, 2012

Below is a “Letter to the Editor “– Abuse of Power in the People’s House was submitted by Billy Rowton on Temple , Texas.  The letter was created in collaboration with members of the Central Texas Tea Party. I was honored to speak to this group last week and I am so proud they are out fighting the good fight!! Thank you Central Texas Tea Party~ I have hope in Texas because of great patriots like you, I am honored to stand with you in this battle to save Texas!

The context of the video; prior to the 81st session, Rep. Ralph Sheffield made derogatory comments saying Straus did not represent the values of his Party Temple Daily Telegram. The video below was taken after the 82nd session and Sheffield states he mended the relationship with Straus during the 81nd session and pledged Straus at the end of the session. Then he inferred it resulted in the appointments of his choice for the 82nd session.

Couple that with his comments in Temple Daily Telegram July 31, 2011- quote: ‘ Sheffield said that those who voted against Straus didn’t get the committee placements they requested, but that such action by Straus, who assigns committee placements, isn’t punishment. “It’s just part of the process,” he said.  “You’re either going to be a player on the team or you’re going to be a renegade.” Conversely, Sheffield said that Straus “pretty much gave me exactly what I asked for in my committee picks…”

The peddling of influence to include giving campaign contributions and promises of power in return for support is not only disgraceful; it’s against the law in Texas.  So is the act of punishing legislators.  Speaking to civic groups, State Representative Ralph Sheffield has often talked about the inner workings of Austin not realizing he was confusing “abuse of power” for political savvy.  He told one group that Speaker Joe Straus punished “R’s” and “D’s”1 (Republicans and Democrats). Later he changed his story; “It’s not punishment; it’s just part of the process.”

This abuse of power stifles our ability to base legislation solely on merit.  The issue was significant enough for the Party Platform to call for representatives “to hold public town hall meetings in which the voters can express their wishes and thoughts about the leadership for the 83rd Session.”  This is in alignment with the “consent of the governed” appeal in our Declaration of Independence.

Recently, constituents in Ralph Sheffield’s district requested the town-hall meeting as specified by the platform, and they were met with an unconcerned politician beholden to Speaker Straus.  We shouldn’t be surprised by Sheffield’s rejection of his constituents.  Once money is accepted from the Speaker and choice committee assignments 3 have been received, one can only expect that cronyism would overpower principle.

Abuse of power and unprincipled politicians are the greatest threat facing our nation and state.  The fast-approaching election of the next Texas Speaker of the House will speak volumes about how we stand in Texas.

Betrayal~ When it feels better to betray than to serve.

Date posted: December 20, 2012

I have been thinking a lot about our Conservative State Representatives who have chosen not to fight the good fight in the Speaker of the House Race. I just keep thinking why, why can you not stand strong. The answer ~ weakness and pride.

Think about this analogy. When a spouse cheats on their wife or their husband many times it is because they are weak. The vow they took in marriage doesn’t feel as good as time spent with the mistress. It is about them, not about the family. It is about them and not what the consequences are. Not only to the spouse they took a vow to but to the children, the grandparents the whole family structure. It truly is about flesh and not about the vow they took, not only to their spouse but with God. Many times in an affair the one who is cheating is behind the scenes justifying what feels good in their mind while working hard to keep up the appearance of the perfect family, but in the end flesh takes hold and truth and reality are exposed. The family breaks up, the vow is broken.  The family is harmed for generations.

I have had the opportunity to speak with a Conservative State Rep.  who has chosen to not stand strong and to support moderate Speaker Joe Straus.  It is with great sadness that I report that based on what he told us, I believe it is about what feels good, not about the vow to serve the people. What is happening right now on the Republican side of the aisle is that the moderates are the ruling class and they use weak Conservatives  to their advantage.

As was reported in Agenda Wise, the ruling class has pushed these weak Conservatives to the front of the conservative line in Austin.

“This is a standard establishment move. The GOP establishment can’t choose conservatives, but they can give their favorites special access to information and the “kid-gloves” treatment, effectively making them the go-to conservative front-bencher. The establishment will cultivate an image of this conservative as reasonable, professional, and competent. The main qualification for a conservative to receive the establishment’s golden treatment is reliable weakness.

(As an aside, the reverse is also true. To neutralize them, the establishment does everything they can to paint true threats as insane weirdoes. This is precisely the strategy employed for years against conservative warriors like Bill Zedler and Wayne Christian.)”

I had to tell this Conservative State Rep. that it was not a threat or a personal attack but that I would do everything in my power to remove him from office in the primary even though he has an incredibly strong conservative record and stands as a strong Christian voice. Based on what he told those of us who were there he had decided after the last Speakers race he was not willing to stand strong again and so instead of standing down he decided to do just the opposite of what Billy Graham says…. “Courage is contagious. When a brave man takes a stand, the spines of others are often stiffened.” This Texas State Rep.  choose to convince other Conservatives that the fight was not worth fighting, he has chosen power over conviction, the system over fixing the system.

“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves among those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague.” Quote by: Marcus Tullius Cicero (106-43 B.C.) Roman Statesman, Philosopher and Orator
Source: Attributed. 58 BC, Speech in the Roman Senate

If you are a Conservative Texas State Rep. I highly recommend that you read this article.

Texas conservative responsibility before deciding who to vote for as Speaker of the Texas House.

Conservatives must stand strong in the race for Speaker of the Texas HouseI wake up everyday ready to fight the good fight for my children because they are the future of this nation. That is exactly what we are fighting for.  The future of this nation. If I do not do what I can to take out weak Conservatives who have become a tool for evil than I am not doing my job as a Mom to protect them and their future.

I pray that these weak Conservatives will see the light and leave the darkness in the halls of the Texas Capital. I also have faith, faith in knowing the end of the story. Just as my children’s favorite Veggie Tails song says…… “God is Bigger the the Boogie Man”.

To all of those Freshman Conservatives who have been put in office by “We The People” ~ “Courage is contagious. When a brave man takes a stand, the spines of others are often stiffened.”

Do not listen to a weak Conservative ~ STAND!

WomenOnTheWall.org Unveils Texas Speaker Showdown II Video

Date posted: December 14, 2012

Women On the Wall, Speaker Showdown II Video

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Austin, TX ~ Ahead of the Jan. 8 kick-off to the 83rd Texas Legislature, Republican House of Representative members are being met with a challenge from grassroots activists statewide:  “Conservative House Speaker Or Your Seat.”  To reinforce the message that electing a significant margin of conservative House representatives signals voter expectations of conservative House leadership, WomenOnTheWall.org has released aTexas Speaker Showdown II – WE’RE BACK! video follow-up to the 2010 Speaker Showdown theme.

The video notes 2012 Texas Tea Party electoral wins as well as current House Speaker Joe Straus’ loss of key political lieutenants following his obstruction of conservative legislation in the 2011 session.  In addition to congratulating a great number of the newly-elected House members, it reminds that primary season 2014 offers the incoming 95 Republican representatives new “Fall of the RINOs” opportunity pending voter satisfaction with actions taken in the upcoming months.

State Rep. David Simpson (R-Longview) is challenging Straus for the House leadership position.  “I respect Speaker Straus as a fellow legislator; however, we differ on the way that the House should be led. And I am not alone in that opinion,” Simpson said in a recent statement. “The culture of ‘go along to get along’ politics, where members face intimidation and retribution should they disagree with a leadership decision, stifles representative government. “

In supporting transparency for the House speakership vote, WomenOnTheWall.Org is calling on a floor vote not a caucus vote for Speaker so this first vote cast can alert conservative voters as to representatives potentially subject to 2014 primary election replacement.
To “Keep Texas Strong,” issues supported by Republicans and Democrats must be debated as well as understood by the public.  Simpson’s position is that floor votes for either party’s legislation should not be obstructed.  If the speaker has exclusive power to control an overall legislative agenda, public policy passage becomes about who buys legislation – not a full, open review of policy options.

WomenOnTheWall.Org believes state representatives deserve the opportunity to fully represent those who elected them as primary elections subsequently allow voters to hold accountable officials failing to serve constituents’ best interests – no matter which side of the political aisle they are on.  A Simpson victory will require Republican and Democratic support.  It will be a win for all Texas voters by offering greater accountability and for all House members by providing the power to represent their constituents as per the Texas Constitution.

WomenOnTheWall.Org is a 501(c)(4) Texas non-profit corporation dedicated to protect our children from the many destructive forces within our nation.
