Media, Straus glory in their shame- www.AgendaWise.com

Date posted: November 4, 2011

I am so happy to know about such great work being done by the writers at AgendaWise.com .

Remember how Straus told us over and over how Conservative he was. Just look at this ad to the right……REALLY JOE?

 I don’t think so……

Check out their latest post by Daniel Greer…..

During the 2011 legislative session conservative higher education advocates worked to make transparency and cost reductions a reality at publicly funded universities in Texas. They were met with vitriolic rebuttals from entrenched administrators, and their liberal partners in the legislature and media.

This week the media has highlighted the role that Speaker Joe Straus played in quashing substantive reform. It is an example of liberals glorying in their shame.

On Tuesday Aman Bathja with the Fort Worth Star Telegram relayed that Joe Straus viewed the efforts as an “assault on higher education.” In truth, the reforms were an assault on the system’s many parasites. Other lawmakers like Democrat Judith Zaffirini are on record claiming the system is running smoothly. Straus used his position as speaker to empower them.

Straus’ role in destroying reform efforts and empowering liberal lawmakers was to create a joint committee. The idea came straight from Straus’ office, according to Reeve Hamilton, a writer for the Texas Tribune. Hamilton, we discovered early in the process was in on the game to fight reforms.

While Bathja gets props for getting Straus on record opposing conservative efforts and Hamilton gets props for his finger pointing, Jason Embry of the Austin American Statesman gets highest marks for adding value.

In his First Reading this week Embry called attention to a powerful Straus advisor whose name is becoming more toxic in conservative circles, Karen Hughes. Recently Hughes has come under fire for securing government funding in Texas for a Muslim charter school network owned by a man who was chased out of his native Turkey for being too fundamentalist for the regime in power at the time.

Hughes also worked with big education advocates, setting up an advocacy group to counter reform- minded conservatives.

While reformers would have liked this first step to have been bigger, silver linings continue to emerge. This is one more clear example of Speaker Straus siding with entrenched interests in order to block the kind of meaningful reform Texas, our nation, and our friends across the pond are desperately in need of.

Straus still telling TSA lies- Agenda Wise Reports

Date posted: October 4, 2011

More great work by Weston Hicks cross posted from Agenda Wise.com

In a recent speech to a group in Tarrant County, Joe Straus repeated discredited lies about the TSA bill, lies that were called out by the TSA bill author and champion Rep. David Simpson in his rousing speech after the bill’s defeat.

Straus repeated a lie he used at the end of the session, saying the reason the TSA bill died was that David Simpson failed to consult the Attorney General in time to address some legal concerns Straus had with the bill. This is demonstrably false. In reality, Rep. Simpson navigated every obstacle thrown at his bill with style and retained documentation, leaving leadership with no legitimate excuse with which to to defend themselves.

Straus used another excuse based on a scheme he engaged in to kill the TSA bill. Straus says, “The Senate sent me a bill and the House had no chance to amend. I just don’t do business that way.” This happened because the Senate sine died (ended the Senate’s special session) right after they sent their version of the TSA bill to the House. Being gone, the Senate couldn’t vote on an amended version of the bill.

This allows Straus to say he was held hostage by the Senate version of the bill. However, the fact there was so little time remaining, and the fact the Senate passed the bill and sine died was carefully orchestrated.

The TSA bill was added to the special session late, but by no means too late. Instead of rushing it onto the docket, many days were wasted by leisurely scheduling. When the scheduled day, a Friday, finally arrived, Joe Straus wasted it by gaveling in, taking roll, and gaveling out, ending business for the day. Wasting the Friday before the special session was to end on Wednesday was fatal for the TSA bill.

RECAP

Previous Posts in this Series:

By Monday it was nearly too late, but not yet. The House passed the TSA bill, then Lt. Governor Dewhurst passed an even stronger TSA bill. Dewhurst then did his dirty deed, officially ending the special session one day early for the Senate.

By running down the shot clock to almost zero, Straus ensured there was no time to deal with the unexpected, and there are a million legislative ways to manufacture “the unexpected”.

The TSA bill was a courageous effort by David Simpson to restore dignity to commercial air travel in Texas by ending groping practices.

In truth, challenging the Obama Administration was considered horribly tacky by ruling class politicians in Austin like Straus. While young girls and old women were being humiliated in Texas airports, they were rolling their eyes that a east Texas freshman legislator was crusading in such an immodest fashion. For Straus and company, the TSA bill was a clear violation of the “we’re in this together for ourselves” culture of ruling class Republicans and Democrats nationwide.

FWST Covers Joe Straus Lies

FWST covers Joe Straus lies

Agenda Wise Reports uncovers the lies once again don’t miss it.

Aman Batheja of the Fort Worth Star Telegram has done Texas voters a service by covering the lies that Joe Straus is telling Texans as he travels the state in anticipation of primary challenges to his liberal lieutenants.

Yesterday Straus told a group of Republicans in Richland Hills that he killed an anti-groping measure this session because it did not contain language from the Attorney General. The bill did contain the AG’s language but still died under Joe Struas’ watch.

Weston Hicks captured the details of David Simpson’s anti-groping bill while they were happening along with Joe Straus’ open opposition to the measure, stalling tactics and eventual dithering. The media did a poor job of keeping Texans informed about the tactics used to kill this important bill.

The TSA issue aside, it is offensive that Straus is openly lying to Texans about what went on in Austin during the 2011 legislative session. Texans deserve transparent and honest dealings with their elected officials.

We give Batheja a pass for not correcting Straus in his article because he at least alerted Texans to the lie.

Media lies about Senator Dan Patrick

Date posted: September 10, 2011

Thank you Daniel Greer of Agenda Wise for another great post. Knowledge is Power and the Agenda Wise crew is empowering Texas citizens daily.

Media lies about Senator Dan Patrick  By Daniel Greer

Given Dan Patrick’s strong conservative bona fides we found it strange that Community Impact reported he was advocating for a naked two cent sales tax increase.

In truth he wasn’t, the reporter with Community Impact selectively cut his remarks which included talk of a tax swap.

The story was later updated but not before the lie was repeated in the Houston Chronicle and Texas Monthly.

We discussed Patricia Kilday Hart’s oppo-reporting last week. This is more of the same from Community Impact and outlets pouncing on the opportunity to sully the reputation of a conservative with misinformation.

The timing for lying about Senator Patrick is good, too, from a liberal perspective. Senator Patrick is currently working to educate Texans on a issue that AgendaWise earmarked as one of 2012’s most important issues in Texas primaries, ascension.

It’s possible the state Senate will select a new Gov. and Lt. Gov in 2013. Since Patrick is the only Senator currently taking this issue to Texas voters, media liberals will increasingly be gunning for Patrick.

Agenda Wise – Ascension Name ID rising

Date posted: September 8, 2011

Agenda Wise.com as “NEW MEDIA” is doing work that the “OLD MEDIA” will not. Take Ascension as a Perfect Example.

“Knowledge is Power” and as we move into election season there are issues we must be aware of before the crisis occurs so we can be better prepared to hold our elected officials accountable.

Ascension - Agenda Wise Reports.com

The media has begun to write about ascension, the process by which Rick Perry and David Dewhurst are replaced if they win in 2012.

Photo courtesy of Note and Point

This wasn’t the plan. Normally, the insiders in the Austin lobby and media keep Texans in the dark and do what they want, living by the old maxim “it is better to ask forgiveness than permission”.

The days of keeping Texans in the dark are coming to an end thanks to new media outlets and activists reporting on things that are ignored by the media and stifled by the lobby.

Weston Hicks first wrote about ascension in early August and filled out a series of scenarios for Texans, including many things that still haven’t become part of the discussion and likely won’t until later.

Insiders are now shifting around in their seats.

A week ago the Fort Worth Star wrote that if both Perry and Dewhurst won, “two statewide officeholders would have to be replaced simultaneously.” This is not completely accurate since each would take their new positions in D.C. at different times in January and in this case that’s important.

This week Austin “insiders” began picking their winners. They will try to end the debate before Texans have a chance to be educated or engage in the selection process.

Perhaps Senators will make a pledge, like State Reps do for House Speaker, so they can morally bind themselves to a bad choice. This gives them an excuse to constituents who can’t figure out why a far-off vote, the most important one, is predetermined to contradict consituents’ wishes.

Here’s a hint to Texans on these “pledges”: they smell wrong because they are wrong.

Texans needed to know about ascension possibilities sooner rather than later. We also need to know about the games that will be played to keep citizens out of the process. Insiders only monopolize things that stay unknown. Ascention needs to become dinner table conversation in Texas.
