Is Tx. State Rep. Phil King a Friend or Foe of his Constituents? Updated with Response from Rep. Phil King~
As of now State Rep. Phil King (R) Weatherford is looking more and more like an establishment insider who is being given the good old boy treatment by Joe Straus.
Updated with Response from Phil King on the below Post. Thank you Rep. King for your response and clarification.
” This is my military weekend so I just have a minute. Bottom line, is the TRRCC PAC that was set up to support all House Republican Caucus members. The Haley article mischaracterized it. The PAC board decides.
There is nothing nefarious about this. I am truly, truly baffled by all the controversy. Two years ago I did this same thing under the GOPAC-TX banner. I was chair of that PAC. Other House members were on that board. In fact, we almost merged GOPAC-TX with the TRRCC PAC in 2010 because they were doing the same thing. Harvey Hilderbran formed the TRRCC PAC that year. We had serious discussions
about merging the boards at that time. GOPAC no longer has a state PAC.”
UPDATE:
Please understand what the TRRCC is, it is a PAC that is used to keep Republicans in Office, that is what it is billed as. The challenge is, just like at the National Level it is used to keep incumbents in office and does not allow Grassroots candidates to have a chance because the money behind the incumbents is so large. That is why the Pledge Card system was so corrupt.
This is not about Phil King, this is about Corruption in Texas politics. Please click on photo of the capital on the invitation below to a TRRCC event and see the kind of money that is raised against grassroots candidates.

Texas House Republican Who’d Been Key Straus Foe
Emerges as Director on Speaker Leadership Team PACPhil King Joins High-Ranking Straus Lieutenants as Finance Committee Member
on Fundraiser Invite in Development that Will Spark Speculation on ConversionBy Mike Hailey
Capitol Inside Editor“A veteran state lawmaker who’s been one of Speaker Joe Straus’ most prominent opponents has signed on as an official for a political action committee that’s holding a fundraiser next week with the Texas House’s top leader as the featured guest.
State Rep. Phil King – a Weatherford Republican who’d been widely regarded as a major force behind a mutiny that Straus survived last year – is listed along with three of the speaker’s closest allies as members of the finance committee on the invitation for the Texas Republican Representatives Campaign Committee reception that’s set for Wednesday in Houston.
While the names of 13 House Republicans appear at the top of the TRRCC fundraiser invitation, all of them with the exception of King have been loyal Straus supporters since conservatives sought without success to oust him from the leadership position when he won a second term as speaker in early 2011.

WOW~ Texas Speaker Joe Straus makes even David Dewhurst look conservative. Maybe that is why Grassroots/Tea Party folks are wanting to replace Joe Straus as Speaker of the Texas House! Here is a video that might explain why people are voicing their opinion to their local State Rep.’s who will be voting on who the Speaker will be and saying it is time for a #SpeakerShowdown in January.

This is just ridiculous! Phil King was one of the few who stood up against Strauss in the past! You need to look at his record. Phil has been a friend to the TEA Party and is my state Rep. he has done a great job and has always made himself available to people in his district and beyond.

Lynette,
The Challenge is not his record because you are right Phil King is one who has stood up in the past. The question is what is his plan for the future. I pray that he is rock solid and will stand tall against Joe Straus in the future. If Phil King would like to put in writing what his plan is I am more than happy to publish it and would support him.

Just for the record, I am in no way disappointed with my state Rep.! So what just because he is on a finance committee with Straus supporters does not mean he is one! I think you are jumping to conclusions and trying to make a mountain out of a molehill instead of just asking Phil King himself! You post this with assumptions and your own conclusions then tell others to call Phil and tell him they are disappointed in him? Guilty until proven innocent? I am disappointed but not in Phil King who has a strong conservative record to run on. I am disappointed alright but in this attack first and ask questions later article! Just my 2 cents.

Is this true?
I have followed the King’s for years and this is not the “norm” for Phil King. I just want to make sure this is true.
Thanks so much for the work that you do
