“Does Santorum Want To Be Vice President?”

By Donna Garner

The news headlines on Tuesday, 3.27.12, screamed:

“Santorum: ‘Of Course’ I Would Serve As Romney’s Vice President

GOP Contest Nearing End, Santorum Will Take Vice President

Santorum, Are You Ready for Vice President?

Rick Santorum for President

To the casual reader, these headlines sent out a clear and intended message that the Santorum supporters should just fold up their tents and go home.

However, it is the liberal media and the country club Republicans who have arbitrarily chosen Romney as the GOP candidate – not the common, everyday, working people who make up the majority of this country.

The leftwing media obviously wants Obama to win and believes Romney would be easily defeated by Obama because RomneyCare is the twin sister to ObamaCare.

When I read the Santorum-VP headlines, I immediately knew something was terribly wrong because nothing could be further from Santorum’s mind than to throw in the towel and let Romney win.

Santorum intends to win the Presidency and is expending all of his time and energy toward that end. His poll numbers are rising.

As of 3.28.12, Public Policy Polling (PPP) found:

Romney and Santorum are tied for the lead.

Mr. Santorum has gained as Mr. Gingrich has declined.

If Gingrich dropped out of the race, Santorum would open up a 6 point lead in North Carolina with 43% to 37% for Romney and 13% for Paul.

The Nebraska poll shows Santorum solidly ahead 39%-25% over Romney.

Santorum has won 9 states, and the Louisiana exit polls prove that Santorum’s economic plan resonates with voters. Santorum won 46% to 30% among economy voters in Louisiana.

The Santorum Team has realistic prospects of mounting enough support to come out of the GOP Convention as the winner.

Santorum and his millions of hard-working supporters are certainly not thinking about settling for his becoming the Vice President under Romney.

It has taken me a few days to track down the genesis of this Santorum-VP rumor, and I believe I finally have traced it back to comments Santorum made in an interview with David Brody on CBN News on 3.26.12

David Brody: If he for some reason asks you to be the vice presidential candidate on his ticket? I know, after is all said and done. Would you even consider it?

Rick SantorumOf course. I mean, look. I would do in this race as I always say, this is the most important race in our country’s history. I’m going to do everything I can. I’m doing everything I can. I’m out there. In the last 10 months, I’ve had five days off. Two for Thanksgiving, and three for Christmas.

I’ve been working every single day. My wife and my kids, we’re just busting our tail, because we know their future and all of our children’s future is at stake in this election. And I don’t want to be the guy who has to sit with my granddaughter, 20 years from now, and tell stories about an America where people once were free. I don’t want to have that conversation.

Brody: So, you’re keeping your options open.

Santorum: I’ll do whatever is necessary to help our country.

(3.26.12, CBN News,TheBrody File —  :Exclusive: Rick Santorum Doesn’t Rule Out Possible VP Slot: ‘I’ll do whatever is necessary to help our country.’

Santorum absolutely did not say nor even intimate, “Of course, I want to be Romney’s Vice President.” Santorum obviously was saying that he would do absolutely anything to keep our country from losing its freedom, even if it meant (heaven forbid) taking the Vice Presidency.

Then the next day on 3.27.12, CBS with its usual bias posted this glaring headline:  “Santorum: ‘Of Course’ I Would Serve As Romney’s Vice President.” The other media outlets immediately jumped on this misinformation and sent their biased articles pouring across the entire country.

Let’s look at some of the other statements that Santorum made in this CBS article and see if it sounds as if Santorum plans to give up his run for the Presidency to become Romney’s Vice President. Also, let’s notice how CBS twisted what Santorum actually said the day before on CBN:

…Santorum has called Romney ‘the worst Republican in the country’ to challenge President Barack Obama, but in a subsequent interview he said he would consider serving as Romney’s running mate.

‘This [healthcare] is the most important issue in this election,’ Santorum declared outside the Supreme Court on Monday while attorneys inside debated the constitutionality of the president’s health care law. ‘There’s one candidate who’s uniquely disqualified to make the case. That’s the reason I’m here and he’s not.’

Seizing on the health care debate as Romney focuses on the nation’s economy, Santorum is fueling tea partyers’ lingering skepticism about the former Massachusetts governor, who signed into law a state-based health care program that helped inspire Obama’s plan…

‘He’s [Romney] the worst candidate to go against Barack Obama on the most important issue of the day,’ Santorum said Monday, highlighting the Massachusetts health care law Romney signed in 2006. It requires all Massachusetts residents to purchase insurance, the same ‘individual mandate’ in question in Obama’s law.

‘Gay marriage went into effect under Gov. Romney. Fifty-dollar abortions went into effect under Gov. Romney, and free abortions for low-income people under Romney,’ Santorum said in Sheboygan, Wis.  (CBS News – DC – 3.26.12 —

It is safe to conclude that

(1) Santorum definitely is not giving up his Presidential run,

(2) the distortion of Santorum’s words is a desperation move on the part of Romney, who is growing more frustrated as his popularity either mainlines or drops, and

(3) the liberal media is deadset on getting its man Obama re-elected.

The good news is that so long as we seek out the truth, listen to the candidates ourselves, review their actual transcripts, and overlook the bias that the media tries to throw at us, our candidate, Rick Santorum, will be the next President of the United States.
